After 2 layoffs in a year due to cutbacks in a sleepy town in Arkansas, I found myself at a crossroads.  Luckily, my last employer had a good severance package, so I had time to seek out new opportunities (and finish an MBA).  I left that sleepy town and found myself in Austin, Texas, which is the least sleepy town in the world.  Time doesn’t stop in Austin.  Now I’m the sole systems administrator/IT guru at a around 150 person firm dealing in logistics security.  These are my trials, tribulations, and triumphs documented so that maybe the guys in big towers can understand where the SMB guys are coming from: the ones who don’t sleep at night, or who are on call every day of the year.  The little man with no budget.  The one whose job is dependent on some sales guy actually delivering his promises.  I’m here to (at least attempt) put some accountability back in the system.
